Bolverk: This Vessel holds approximately 44 oz. This equals 3 normal 12 oz cups comfortably with a good amount of space at the top. This is handy for the drinker on the go. This tankard holds enough ale (or water or soda) to keep you going for a while with enough "slosh" room to make it highly portable. Freki: The slightly smaller Freki holds approximately 36 oz. It will hold 2 normal 12 oz cups comfortably with a good amount of "slosh" room. Geri: This is the more traditional sized mug found at many other mug makers shops. It holds approximately 24 oz. and will comfortably hold 1 12 oz cup with lots of "slosh" room or 2 if you balance it right and drink quickly. Skol: This vessel was born of the desire to have a more traditional "cup". Skol holds 24 oz. but has no handle. Lupa: This unique goblet shaped vessel holds approximately 16 oz. Holds 1 standard cup with good "slosh" room.
Capacities
The first question I get when carrying my Bolverk is "how much ale does that thing hold?" usually followed by "isn't that leather?" and "doesn't it leak?" The short answer is 44 oz (over 3 normal renfest cups), Yes it is and No it doesn't. Ulfric... The typical beer cup at a Renaissance festival is around 12 oz. but some run to 16 oz. I am sure most of you will agree that is grossly inadequate. That is where Ulfric comes in... Keep in mind that the capacities listed on this site include 3 very important disclaimers! 1. They are approximate. Each vessel is hand cut and hand made so slight size differences can and will occur. Typically they run larger rather than smaller though. 2. The listed capacity is TO THE RIM. It is usually a good idea to have at least 4 oz of space at the top for foam and to prevent sloshing when moving. 3. It is important, nay CRITICAL to remember that these vessels are for COLD liquids. They are lined with a blend of pitch and bees wax that is watertight and impervious to alcohol. This blend will however get soft or melt under high temperatures. This does not mean your bottom will drop out on a warm summer day, but it does mean that hot coffee may cause mug failure.
